Kylian Mbappe Says He’ll Not Trigger Contract Extension This Summer

Mbappe, 24, had until July 31 to tell PSG if he wanted to extend his contract until 2025. After months of negotiations, he informed the club in writing that he would not be returning.

PSG’s all-time leading scorer would be free to leave at the end of the season, and the move could be a negotiating tactic.

Last month, it was revealed that Mbappe’s three-year contract, which he signed last summer, was split into two years with the option of a third. The extra year is a player option, so Mbappe could choose whether or not to use it.

Mbappe is at the Verge of Entering the Last Year of His Contract

Currently, the France national player is on the verge of entering the last year of his contract. He faced a similar situation last year, but PSG managed to convince him to extend his contract.

If Mbappe doesn’t activate the additional year, he will have the opportunity to sign a preliminary agreement with a non-French club in January.

In another development, Paris St-Germain is now making arrangements to sell Kylian Mbappe this summer instead of risking losing him for nothing in a year, as he informed the French club that he won’t renew his contract.

Mbappe, who initially joined PSG on loan from Monaco in 2017 before completing a 180 million euros transfer, has scored 212 goals in 260 games. He has netted 38 goals in 68 matches for France, including a hat-trick in last year’s final in Qatar, where France was defeated by Argentina in a penalty shootout.

Mbappe has been the leading scorer in Ligue 1 for the past five seasons and has secured five league titles in his six seasons at PSG.
