The Kano state government, under Abba Kabir Yusuf, announced that Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II will continue as the emir of Kano state. This announcement came after a ruling by Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman of the Federal High Court on Thursday, which nullified the dethronement of the 15th Emir Ado Bayero and removed Sanusi from office. In a recent development, Muhammadu Sanusi II, now the 16th Emir of Kano, has spoken out about the ongoing dispute between him and the deposed emir, Bayero.

I Don’t Care if I’m Removed Again–Sanusi

Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, stated in an interview with The Sun Newspaper that he is unconcerned about being removed again as long as the unity of the Kano Emirate is preserved.

In an interview published on Saturday, June 22, Sanusi II attributed the turmoil within the Emirate to the previous administration under Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Following the Federal High Court’s ruling on Thursday, presided over by Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, which invalidated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s actions on May 23, 2024, Sanusi II was reinstated as the 16th Emir of Kano when the Kano Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024 was nullified. Despite the controversial court decision, Sanusi expressed his perspective:

“Even now that I am here, only God knows how long I will remain. I could pass away tomorrow. Another governor might announce my removal, but it doesn’t concern me. What matters to me is that the integrity of the emirate remains intact. I am glad that during my tenure, we did not witness the destruction of a 1000-year-old history. I am thankful to this government and assembly for rectifying the situation and restoring the emirate to its rightful place. My hope is that whoever succeeds me will inherit the same legacy. This is about preserving the system, not about me or any individual.”
