The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Interior, has launched an online passport application portal to allow Nigerians to apply for their passports seamlessly. In December, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, announced that the FG was working to ensure a fully automated system of passport application in the country.

At the time, the minister stated that the automated application system was “99 per cent done” and mentioned that the process would involve uploading passport photos and supporting documents.

The Minister of Interior explained that Nigerian applicants who want 32-page passports with five-year validity would need to pay N35,000, while those opting for 64-page passports with a 10-year validity would need to pay N70,000.

Meanwhile, foreign applicants who wish to apply for 32-page passports with a five-year validity period will pay $130, while those preferring 64-page passports with a 10-year validity period will pay $230.

How to Apply Online

  • Visit the online application portal at http://passport.immigration.gov.ng.
  • For new applicants, click on “Apply for Fresh Passport.”
  • Enter your NIN and date of birth, and complete the other required data.
  • Upload your passport photograph and other supporting documents.
  • Visit the nearest Immigration Office for your biometric capture.
  • Your passport will be ready for collection within two weeks.

  • You must have a passport photograph that meets ICAO standards.
  • You must have your documents ready, such as your birth certificate and local government certificate of origin, among others.
